Who doesn’t own a pair of jeans? It is difficult to find someone who doesn’t have a pair of jeans in their wardrobe. Jeans have definitely come a long way after it became popular in the 1950s. Now after more than 50 years, jeans are still here and are more popular than ever. Whether young or old, man or woman, jeans are definitely a staple in everybody’s wardrobe.
The Jeans: Now and Then
Jeans were originally intended for work and became popular when teenagers started wearing it in the 50s. Popular brands that produce jeans now are Levi’s, Jordache and Wrangler. Now that almost everybody’s wearing it everywhere, it’s difficult to imagine that jeans were once considered unfit for certain occasions and some places like restaurants. If there’s one article of clothing that has survived the ever changing world of fashion and was able to keep up with the fast changing way of human life, it would have to be the jeans.
Today, a pair of jeans does not come in just one color but you would also find a variety of colors like red, blue, yellow, grey and many more. Jeans now also come in a variety of styles and cuts. There’s boot cut, carpenter jeans, classic, baggy, hip hugger, ankle jeans, loose, straight cut, flare, skinny and so much more. It could be said that jeans have become so popular because of its practicality and the comfort it offers.
Although originally worn and were more popular with the younger generation, it didn’t take long for everybody else to start wearing jeans. It is not only worn for work, but for parties, school and even more formal gatherings. Jeans are versatile articles of clothing that a person could dress up for a social gathering or dress down for daily, everyday use.
Sturdy and inexpensive, jeans would last for a long time and sometimes, would gain more appeal and character as it age. Plus, it could be converted into another article of clothing; like skirts for girls, if it’s no longer wearable. With it being very versatile, the jeans has crossed over to being made into bags, skirts, jackets, dresses and even shoes.
Comfort and practicality are probably the two reasons that jeans are very popular. Jeans do not easily pick up dirt, they do not wrinkle or crease right away and they do not stick to the body even when wet. Because of these reasons, jeans could be worn anywhere and everywhere.
Even though jeans are amazing, they still have a few disadvantages the biggest being that jeans, unlike other materials, do not allow your skin to breath. This is not very healthy and may lead to bad skin but people who don’t wear jeans 24/7 have nothing to worry about.
Jeans won’t probably give up their high position in fashion or their place in everybody’s wardrobe anytime soon. No other material or piece of clothing has even given people the comfort and practicality that a pair of jeans offers. They might have had humble beginnings but the jeans are on top of fashion and would probably stay there for a very long time
