When you speak about New York, you are talking about the fashion capital of America. And although the fashion week in this city is over, the inspirations, trends, and looks in the show will still be worn in the next upcoming spring and summer seasons.

Folk Art

It seems like this coming summer is again going to be full of fun with lace, adorned waist coats, paisley prints, floral embroideries, and colorful patterns. Some call it “Flower Child,” ”Bohemian Look,” or “Hippie Chic.” You can call it any name you want, but these designs are still beautiful as seen in Miss Sixty, Matthew Williamson, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, and Anna Sui.

In the Nude

This is a major trend coming from the collection of Fall/Winter ’08 ’09. It consists of a color palette with natural skin tones from head to toe. Many designers have produced a fusion of neutral and beige tones, among them Carmen Marc Valvo, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon, Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors.

Blue

Different shades of blue (light, electric, deep blue, etc.) from the sea to the sky were seen parading on the runways. Splashes of these vibrant colors are shown by Marc Jacobs, Y3, Alexander Wang, DKNY, and Michael Kors – these are great additions to your spring and summer color palette.

Tied and Zipped up

Sophisticated body wraps and tied up dresses – these tenderly exude a funky feel and speak out a fashion statement of body consciousness. In addition, ornamental and practical metallic zippers give the fabrics an illustrative effect. The designers that successfully complemented the female form include Matthew Williamson, Michael Kors, Diesel and Narciso Rodriguez, Thakoon, and Rodarte.

All about Shape

New York designers are taking us one step ahead when it comes to fashion. If you saw the designs of Michael Kors, Preen, Yigal Azrouel, Phillip Lim, and Calvin Klein, some of the clothes looked like bizarre or striking aquatic beings. Draped, pleated, ruffled, creased, structured or soft – it’s truly an interesting path of fascinating shapes, notable geometric silhouettes, and unique fabric usage.

Prints and Paterns

Eye catching, cheerful, and beautifully vibrant prints and patterns are also included in the new trend for the next season. Jonathan Saunders, Marc Jacobs, Miss Sixty, Badgley Mischka, and Diane von Furstenberg showcased geometric patterns, abstract figures, beautiful butterfly elements, oversized features, and elaborate embellishments. Also included are folk ethnic, embroidered, printed, and floral prints.

Stark White Dresses

As seen from Zac Posen, Preen, Isaac Mizrahi, and Luca Luca, the classic and beautiful little white dresses are serious contenders for wardrobe space next year. They are talking about the smart and clean, gracefully detailed or architecturally tailored stark white dresses.

Primal Femininity

Designers such as Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, and Anna Sui also drew their inspirations from ancient, tribal, and multi cultural beauty. They recognize that original art is timeless, so they renewed and modernized the African, Asian, and Native American strength and splendor.

Accessories and Details

For the next season, pay special attention to the details of your outfit. The fashion shows have proven that wearing hats can add sophistication, chic, and character to every look. Also, be daring and beautiful with head dresses, bows around your waist, or big ruffled necklines.
